What is information technology, Its uses, Skills, and Jobs

In the modern-day, the acronym or the term ‘IT’ is ordinarily used to expound Computers as well as networks inside a business ambiance. The term pertains to their applications such as studying, transmitting, storing, handling, exchanging, and sharing all information via electronic media. The term can also be used to cover spheres like television, e-commerce, telecommunication equipment, and the internet. 

Before talking about Information technology the experts from the academic writing solutions should know the history of IT evolution and that can be divided into five parts,

Pre-Mechanical Age: 

Nearly 3000 B.C. and 1450 A.D.  is the period when uncivilized to mid-civilized humans started communicating through pictures to describe their feelings, stories, maps, etc. which were the way of accounting for their history.

Mechanical Age:

This age can be defined as the period between 1450 and 1840 when many technologies were invented like the slide ruler it is the analog computer that was used for multiplying and dividing. Initially, it was known as an Arithmetic machine.

Electro-Mechanical Age:

This age can be defined between 1840 and 1940 when a lot of revolutionary technologies were invented like the Telephone by Alexander Graham Bell, Morse code by Samuel Morse, Radio by Guglielmo Marconi, etc. these all technologies were the stepping stone of the Modern Information Technology systems. The first automatic digital computer was invented in the United States named Harvard Mark 1 invented by IBM in 1994.

Electronic Age:

In this age vacuum tubes were used for electronic switches, Technology was still new at that time. The first Electronic computer was ENIAC which could solve many complex numerical problems via reprogramming.

Information Age:

Digital Revolution led the world to the Information age just like the industrial revolution put the onset of the Industrial Age.  Information technology is fully associated with the Internet. The term Information Technology appeared in 1958 in an article published by Harvard Business Review. The authors of that article were Harold J. Leavitt and Thomas L. Whisler. The term got its strength after the invention of the World Wide Web in 1989 by the British scientists Tim Berners-Lee. Internet is now the giant platform for accelerating the running of Information flow.

Uses of Information Technology:

Information Technology can be used in various fields like Agriculture, Business, Education, Health, and also in daily life.

Information Technology in Agriculture:

To build a country’s economy stronger than any other country Agriculture plays a pivotal role. In this sector, new techniques and modern methods can be implemented with the help of Information Technology which may lead to yielding capacity more than before. GIS (Geographic Information System) by this farmer can make their choice of what to plant and where it must be planted relying on previous data and sampling. For surveying GPS is now used. Drones can be used in this sector for the purpose of surveying, seed planting, spreading pesticides, etc.

 Information Technology in Business:

Information Technology is the key factor in any successful business. Because of Information Technology producers or the businessman aware of customer’s needs quickly.  It can accelerate production and deliver new products to the market. Businesses become so easy by many applications via which materials can be advertised all over the world in one click. Their efficiency can be shown via video conferencing allowing meetings through computers and mobile devices and documents can be sent within a seconds. Online payment makes businesses easier than before this new payment system is also a part of Information Technology.

Information Technology in Education:

The majority of the institutions are now using Information Technology to give the best understanding of many concepts to students in their classrooms as well as at their homes. Learning and teaching now become easier than before because of Information technology. It has wiped out the traditional soporific lectures in the classroom. Now students do not absent from their classes because of attractive audiovisual presentations given by their teachers to clear their concepts in depth.

The digitalized classroom has changed the traditional method of the teaching process. By many applications students, themselves can assess their progress. Teachers also can quickly find out their student’s weak points and give them necessary notes or suggestions via this technology. Earlier people who can’t afford costly books now can avail themselves of those books digitally on their mobile in PDF format. And those e-books can be opened anywhere if the reader wants to read them.  By using devices like mobile phones, computers, tab, etc people can now grab their data within a second instead of searching books, papers, or any hard copy. Google and Youtube are the most useful applications for searching for information.

 Mainly there are four monumental skills Employers want in an IT specialist. These are:

Coding:

An employer always searches for an IT professional who has the ability to write code. Programming-based jobs need those candidates who have the ability to do code in different languages as there are many systems that use more than one language. IT professionals must have the working knowledge in ordinary coding languages viz. HTML and C++ etc.

Communication:

In IT professionals communication skills must be in their habit as they need to work in several teams and groups with different kinds of thinking teammates.

Network:

Communication skills further extended to knowledge networking skills via which IT professionals can take and share knowledge with their colleagues. It takes them always in the curious mood of learning new things.

Time Management:

IT professionals need to stay motivated for this self-motivation and self-directions are much needed. This field enables them to manage their time meticulously. 

Besides the aforementioned points, there are many other skills like Analytics, Application Development, Architecture, Cloud Applications, Configuration management, Content Strategy, Content Management, Critical Thinking, Database Administration, IT Soft skills, Leadership, Web Design, etc.

Jobs in Information Technology:

As IT industry encompasses humongous fields that pertain to computers as well as digital information. Many leading companies across the world adapted themselves to digital technologies. So, IT professionals become the most demandable workforce. According to Statista, by 2020 January in the USA, there were 3 million IT employees. This sector gives employment in various sub-fields like Telecommunication, Software publishing, Technology manufacturing, Internet services, gaming, and many others. A huge salary scale also is provided by this sector according to its jobs sphere, it is now the growing and fast employment giving sector where students can make their future bright.
